Aga Khan Museum
The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, established in 2014, is managed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, part of the Aga Khan Development Network. Located at 77 Wynford Drive, it presents a Permanent Collection of over 1,000 objects—manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork, paintings—spanning from the ninth through the twenty‑first century and reflecting artistic traditions across the Muslim world, from Iberia to China. Designed by Pritzker Prize–winner Fumihiko Maki, the museum’s architecture and surrounding gardens emphasize the interplay of light, shadow and space, offering a contemplative environment integrated with the adjacent Ismaili Centre and landscape by Vladimir Djurovic.
Beyond exhibitions, the Museum offers educational programmes, performances (music, dance), summer camps and curator‑led tours, aiming to foster cross‑cultural understanding and dialogue through art and ideas. Noteworthy exhibitions include “The World of the Fatimids”, “50 Years of Migration”, and “Muqarnas: Form and Light”, which blend historical depth with contemporary relevance and provoke reflection on cultural exchange and identity.
The Museum publishes a digital guide via the Bloomberg Connects app and its own “Aga Khan Museum Connected” streaming app, available on both Apple App Store and Google Play. Users worldwide can access performances, talks and content from the Museum even remotely. Membership, visiting hours and on‑site amenities like the restaurant Diwan and shop further support a rich visitor experience.
Overall, the Aga Khan Museum plays a distinctive role in Toronto's cultural landscape, combining outstanding Islamic art collections with architecture, programming and digital outreach that encourage global civic and cultural exchange.
