Calgary Tower

City & Attractions/City Landmarks

Calgary Tower is a slender, free-standing observation tower rising 190.8 metres above downtown Calgary. Since opening in 1968, it has become a defining city symbol, offering visitors panoramic 360° vistas of the urban core, the Rocky Mountains and surrounding prairies. A unique glass-floor extension allows daring guests to look directly down onto the streets below.

At 155 metres up, Sky 360—the revolving restaurant—makes a full rotation every 45 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes in the evening, delivering fine dining with changing views. Below, a theatre room and gift shop enrich the visit with multimedia storytelling and souvenir browsing.

The tower was built as a joint venture between Marathon Realty and Husky Oil to commemorate Canada’s centennial and promote urban renewal. Its construction featured an impressive nonstop concrete pour. Later enhancements include the glass floor in 2005, modern LED light shows, and retaining its heritage even as newer skyscrapers rise around it.

Operated by Aspen Properties (through Calgary Tower Facilities Ltd.), the tower is part of Calgary’s +15 pedestrian network, making it easily accessible. It blends architecture, dining, history and entertainment in a compact urban landmark that continues to attract locals and tourists alike.
