CONTACT is a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to exhibiting, analyzing and celebrating photography and lens-based media through an annual festival held every May.

The CONTACT Photography Festival began in 1997 and has become one of the world’s largest photography festivals. It features a Core Program of curated exhibitions and public programs in partnership with major museums, galleries and artist-run centres across the Greater Toronto Area. In parallel, the Open Call exhibitions invite independently organized photographic projects city-wide, enabling artists to present lens-based work in alternative venues and public spaces. The upcoming Open Call for the 2026 edition will open in October 2025 and extend until January 2026, offering free registration and wide participation.

CONTACT also operates the Photobook Lab, a year-round bookstore and reading room that supports experimental photobook publishing, reading and conversation. During the festival, the Lab presents workshops, book launches, and specialized programs that explore contemporary approaches to photobooks.

CONTACT’s headquarters serves as a community hub, programming exhibitions, artist talks and workshops beyond the festival season. Its commitment to inclusivity, equity and anti-oppressive practice is embedded across its programming, governance and outreach. The organization acknowledges Indigenous territories and strives to highlight under-represented voices through continuing reflection on power structures and representation.
