Heritage Park
Heritage Park is Western Canada's largest living history museum, located on 127 acres of scenic peninsula by Glenmore Reservoir in Calgary's southwest. Opened in 1964, the park invites visitors to journey through time—from the 1860s fur-trade era through to the automobile age of the 1950s. The historical village features over 180 exhibits and 55,000 artifacts, including authentic relocated buildings and detailed replicas, dressed by staff in period costume to bring daily life from the past vividly to life.
Guests can board steam-powered trains, the S.S. Moyie paddlewheeler, antique midway rides, or explore the Gasoline Alley Museum—the world’s largest public collection of antique vehicles and petroliana, complete with an interactive digital experience called StorySeeker.
Operating seasonally from mid-May through early October for the Historical Village, and year-round for attractions like Gasoline Alley Museum, Railway Café, and Heritage Plaza, visitors enjoy daily programs, summer camps, special events such as Railway Days and Alberta Day, live demonstrations, dining, shopping and event spaces.
Heritage Park is governed by the Heritage Park Society, a registered charitable institution (No. 11895 6457 RR0001) incorporated in 1963. Its mission is “Discovering Our Past, Inspiring Our Future,” combining historical education with community engagement, sustainability, and stewardship of heritage collections and structures.
Overall, Heritage Park offers an immersive, multi-generational experience—where living history, entertainment, education and celebration converge to foster a deeper connection to Western Canada’s roots.
