Michael Garron Hospital
Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), part of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN), is a full-service, community teaching hospital serving East Toronto. Established in 1929, it has evolved into a large urban hospital caring for over 400,000 residents. Its mission emphasizes compassionate, inclusive, and comprehensive care, supported by education and research.
Clinical Programs
MGH provides a wide range of clinical services. Its 24/7 Emergency Department handles acute and trauma cases. The Oncology and Hematology Program offers diagnostics, systemic therapy, and cancer support. The Mental Health and Addiction Program serves adults, youth, and children with inpatient and outpatient services. The Family Birthing Centre supports obstetrics, midwifery, and neonatal care. Other services include pediatrics, complex continuing care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, palliative care, and Indigenous health programs.
Facilities and Innovation
The hospital features modern surgical suites, advanced imaging (MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine), and specialized clinics. Redevelopment projects are ongoing to expand emergency and critical care capacity. Virtual care, telemedicine, and outpatient rehabilitation services strengthen accessibility.
Education and Research
MGH partners with the University of Toronto and other academic institutions to train physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. Through research initiatives, it contributes to innovations in cancer, geriatrics, Indigenous health, and community-based medicine.
Patient Support and Digital Tools
Patients and families benefit from interpreter services, spiritual and religious care, and social work programs. MyChart, a secure patient portal, provides access to health records, test results, and appointments online. Virtual family visits and digital reminders further enhance the patient experience.
Community Role
Serving one of Toronto’s most diverse populations, MGH is recognized for its commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness. Its integrated model ensures that East Toronto residents have access to high-quality, local care, from emergency treatment to long-term support.
