Richmond Hospital (RH) is a community hospital under Vancouver Coastal Health serving Richmond, Delta, and travellers via Vancouver International Airport and BC Ferries. It currently offers around 200 inpatient beds, but is being expanded: redevelopment phases will increase the inpatient capacity to approximately 353 beds. The hospital also is a teaching facility affiliated with UBC Faculty of Medicine. It provides both acute and some tertiary-level care.

Patients at RH can access an array of services: 24/7 Emergency Department, maternity services including birth and neonatal support, surgical services, diagnostic imaging (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI), laboratory services, ambulatory care and outpatient clinics. It has intensive care unit, psychiatric inpatient and outpatient mental health services, a psychiatric assessment unit (PAU), cancer care clinics, nuclear medicine, echocardiography, palliative care, pain clinic, and Indigenous Patient Navigators.

Recent Redevelopment & Future Plans

Richmond Hospital is undergoing a major redevelopment (Phases 2 & 3 of its campus expansion) costing about CAD $1.95 billion. This includes building a new acute care tower (Yurkovich Family Pavilion), new and upgraded operating rooms, critical care unit, expanded imaging, enhanced emergency services, and renovated existing towers including psychiatric assessment and inpatient units. The goal is to improve patient flow and capacity, reduce wait times, and modernize facilities.

Visitors and patients should expect shared rooms in many cases; private or semi-private rooms may be available but limited. Amenities include food services, spiritual health / sacred spaces, gathering places, Indigenous patient navigation, gift shop, parking (paid), drop-off zones, public transit access. What Users Should Know

Emergency wait times vary depending on demand and time of day. Some specialty clinics require referral or appointment. Mental health and substance use services have both inpatient and outpatient components. The redevelopment project will bring added capacity but may also cause temporary disruptions. For urgent but non-life-threatening situations, alternate clinics may offer faster access.
