Sea to Sky Gondola
Sea to Sky Gondola is a privately operated aerial tramway near Squamish, BC, launched in May 2014 after a CAD $7.6 million build. It uses 39 eight-person cabins produced by Doppelmayr/Garaventa, climbing Mount Habrich in about 10 minutes and offering panoramic views of Howe Sound and the Tantalus Range.
At the summit, visitors can cross the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, dine at the Summit Lodge, smokehouse or Co‑Pilot Café, and explore twelve hiking and interpretive trails—frontcountry and backcountry—and family-friendly amenities. Seasonal activities include live music, yoga, winter tubing, snowshoeing and ski-touring.
Accessibility is well-supported: cabins, viewing decks, stroller/ wheelchair use, and trails like Panorama and Spirit are inclusive. Young children under 5 ride free, and cashless transactions are standard onsite.
The gondola has faced incidents: two separate acts of cable sabotage in 2019 and 2020, causing extended closures and over CA $2 M in repairs; no one was injured, and enhanced security followed.
Overall, the Sea to Sky Gondola combines dramatic geography, accessible outdoor adventure, comprehensive visitor services, and year-round appeal—making it an essential day‑trip destination from Vancouver or Whistler.
