The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland

City & Attractions/City Landmarks

The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland occupies 40 acres at the meeting of the Bow and Elbow rivers—land sacred to Indigenous peoples for millennia. Formerly Fort Calgary, it was rebranded in spring 2024 to broaden the narrative beyond colonial history and better reflect its deep cultural layers.

Today, it is a dynamic heritage cultural hub offering guided tours from Wednesday to Sunday, immersive exhibits, seasonal programs, youth sleepovers, summer camps, walking events, podcasts, private tours, and more. Notable features include the Confluence Garden, theater space, historic NWMP barracks reconstructions, and the permanent exhibit “Kípaitápiiyssinnooni (Our Way of Life)” celebrating Blackfoot culture.

As a charitable, nonprofit National Historic Site (#11892 7870 RR0001), The Confluence emphasizes inclusion, accessibility, and engagement—through youth programs, community workshops, podcasts, and volunteer or sponsorship opportunities. Located between downtown Calgary and Inglewood, it is vital for both reflection and celebration—allowing visitors to explore colonial histories as well as Indigenous legacies, and to gather for festivals, beekeeping, trivia nights, weddings, and more.

Overall, The Confluence balances thoughtful historical interpretation with vibrant public programming—creating a place where diverse narratives coalesce and community meaning flows.
